One Week of Unemployment

After four years, I've left Google. I accepted a voluntary layoff and my access was revoked at 5pm, Tuesday Aug. 19th 2025. When this happened, I felt a wave of sadness come over me, knowing that a defining chapter in my life closed and another had just begun.

Now I feel a weight on my shoulders that is heavier than any before. This weight is the recognition that development of my future is entirely in my hands and that there is no playbook now. I've never felt more equipped to bear any load.

Despite falling ill with COVID and sleeping for roughly 24h straight last week, I've had a good start to the rest of my life. I've read four books and started a fifth:
1. Women - Charles Bukowski
2. Ham on Rye - Charles Bukowski
3. Post Office - Charles Bukowski
4. The Stranger - Albert Camus
5. Moravagine - Blaise Cendrars

I am reading to understand more about the world, understand more about my masculinity, improve as a writer, improve my ability to focus.

This week, I will be doing some more reading and doing some administrative work that front runs my travels to come (e.g., appointment booking).

An excerpt from my Google farewell email that describes my planned intellectual focus points

My song recommendation is Away by Mons Vi (Youtube link).
My book recommendation is Post Office.
